This is not the first multifunctional glass in the world and certainly not the last. However, it is so sophisticated, aesthetic and elegant that it is simply a must to talk about it. Even though the concept itself is not new, I hope there will be someone who will make it available for the general public.
If we like good wine, let us show our respect by pouring them in the suitable glasses. All in a kind of glass in which each wine is able to show its beautiful characteristics in their fullest so that we can enjoy them to the fullest. It is not a rare sight that either the wrong kind of glass is used, or too much wine is poured in the glass, or some hold their glasses improperly.
I know that we live in consumer society and if we bought a set of six glasses for all the wine, champagne and cognac that we drink, we would end up with a minimum of 24 pieces. If we cannot contain our snobbery, this number could easily double (for champagne, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, Bordeaux/cabernet, Burgundy/pinot noir, furmint …). I guess I am not the only one to say that so many glasses are unnecessary. The concept of this glass has been developed for serving the four major groups of drinks. The "one glass, adapted to every drinks" keeps the bowl and changes the stem and foot for serving water, cognac, wine and champagne.
I would recommend to keep the following in mind when buying wine glasses:
- The glass must be transparent (without any colouring or pattern)
- Its rim shall be thin or cut (to ease the wine flowing out on the tongue)
- It should have a large enough bowl (for the aroma so that the wine could come in contact with more air to ease the unfolding of hidden flavours)
- It must have a long stem (to enable the proper holding and turning of the glass, to help avoid warming up the drink, not to mention the visually disturbing sight of fingerprints)
