Alchemy usually conceals and considers the processes of the purification, elevation, redemption and worship of the soul (Opus Magnum) from a metaphysical perspective. In this case, alchemy’s symbol of purity has provided the inspiration for the brand identity. There is a clear message of parallels, as you can change a material of little value into one of greater value with the help of Üllo.
However, let’s disregard practical magic a little and just look at the facts.
The desgners’ aim was to create a multifunctional cleaning device, which liberates us from the sulphur used to preserve wine. Moreover, it also aerates the wine while cleaning it, so that ideally you can actually enjoy it in the natural state envisaged by the winemaker.
Üllo returns wine to its natural state, as if you had opened the bottle right in the vineyard. It was created to be a simple and delightful experience that celebrates and enhances the ritual of wine drinking.
I respect the designers because they have also endeavoured to think beyond the natural flavours, to the fact that millions of people are sensitive to sulphur. Those who are not sensitive, but don’t like natural, low or zero sulphur wines, can also enjoy the benefits of the device as it does not affect the flavours.
I particularly liked the fact that the cleaning can be carried out on either a glass or even a bottle. Of course, the designers have also given thought to providing the product with appropriate accessories, thus the family is also completed with a borosilicate crystal glass carafe and decanter hand blown in Europe. The designers have collected the necessary capital using a kickstarter campaign, so that we can all soon enjoy natural wine consumption as provided by Üllö in our own homes.
