Current researches show that the grape variety Kadarka comes from the border of Albania and Montenegro, from along Lake Skadar. Its main production area today is in Hungary, though it is not forgotten in Serbia, Romania or Bulgaria either. Since in general it gives lighter wines, traditionally it is not put into new casks. Generally it is fermented and aged in large (500 litres+) old casks or steel tanks.
