The SFIWC is the largest and most influential wine competition in the United States. Founded in 1980, this year the competition was held for the thirty-sixth time in San Francisco’s Nikko Hotel, with the international jury judging wines between 9 and 12 June.
According to the competition’s official press release, 4,618 wines were entered, with a large increase in the number of international entries, with Spain, Italy and Hungary demonstrating the highest growth in comparison to previous years.
The FurmintUSA promotion entered the majority of Hungarian wines in the competition, 100% of which were awarded a medal by the jury, resulting in them boasting three double gold, one gold, eight silver and four bronze. Among the Furmints, Tokaji Erzsébet Cellar’s Zafír Vineyard Selection 2012 figures as the most outstanding, receiving a ’Best’ rating in this category and racking up 95 points according to the international 100-point judging system.
