Namely, the annual meeting of the two largest professional organisations, the Slovakian Association of Grape and Wine Producers (Združenie výrobcov hrozna a vína na Slovensku) and the Slovakian Association of Grape Producers (Združenie vinohradníkov Slovenska). The members of both organisations approved the motion for the merger of their associations, thus establishing the Association of Slovakian Grape and Wine Producers (Zväz vinohradníkov a vinárov Slovenska, ZVVS). According to Ľubomír Vitek, the president of the new association, the union will make negotiating with the government easier and it marks a major step towards the establishment of an inter-profession organisation. In future, the ZVVS will not only carry out administrative, but also marketing tasks, meaning that the organisation will host the Slovakian wine community’s most important event, Slovenské víno (Slovakian Wine), where the Národný Salón Vín (National Wine Salon) awards, the Wine-maker of the Year and a series of other professional recognitions are presented.
